Qui ne connait pas Jimmy Hunt à Montréal ! Über-charismatique figure des nuits montréalaises, arpentant les bars avec son One Man Band , doux mélange de Bloodshot Bill et Dylan période post branchage de guitares (harmonica inclus), il commence à jammer en 2006 avec Ysael Pepin ( bassiste des Demons Claws – In The Red). Avec l’arrivée de Brian, Martin et Dale, CHOCOLAT prend forme ainsi qu’un 1er EP à la fin de la même année.
Ils enregistrent rapidement ‘Piano Elegant’, un premier album acclamé par la critique. Chocolat enchaîne les concerts et va même se produire aux Jeux Olympiques d’hiver de Vancouver. Chocolat est mis en stand-by en 2010, afin que Jimmy enregistre son premier album solo. Mais Jimmy et Ysael continuent de jouer ensemble, asseyant les bases d’un projet abstrait nommé Fantôme.
Puis, à la fin de 2013, Jimmy jette quelques idées en démos sur sa tablette, des séquences linéaires aux longs riffs avec des cassures rythmiques et des effets synthétiques rudimentaires, et se dit que le band idéal pour jouer cela serait Chocolat !
Il réunit de nouveau le groupe avec son complice Emmanuel Ethier (Jimmy Hunt, Cœur de pirate) en remplacement de Dale, et après seulement 3 repets, booke le studio Victor en janvier 2014.
En quelques jours, les gars enregistrent live, full band, en gardant généralement la 2e ou 3e prise de chacun des morceaux dans un soucis de spontanéité et d’urgence. Cette énergie garage incarnée par Ysael et Brian transcende les trames mécaniques composées par Jimmy. En ressort TSS TSSS un album prog et psyché bancal à souhait. Et si nous sommes loin de la virtuosité et de l’application d’un Aquaserge par exemple, c’est tant mieux car on jubile ici à l’écoute de cet album foutraque et trippé enregistré entre amis.
