Ce cycle de trois conférences proposera, après une analyse du film de Mike Nichols Le Lauréat (1967), une re-découverte du renouveau du cinéma américain à la fin des années 60, mouvement plus connu sous le nom de « Nouvel Hollywood ». Si Hollywood est baptisé « usine à rêves », on pourra considérer le « Nouvel Hollywood » comme une remise en cause du classicisme hollywoodien, une véritable « fabrique de cauchemars. On abordera notamment le renouveau du film de gangsters, Le road-movie, la relecture des mythes de l’ouest …
