Blues maléfique et brutal !!
Sur la pochette, un troll. Pas un troll d’internet, mais un bon vrai vieux troll des forêts scandinaves, peint en 1906 par le Norvégien Theodor Kittelsen. Ce troll géant est coiffé comme Paul Major, le leader du groupe new-yorkais Endless Boogie. C’est sans doute son ancêtre. Endless Boogie joue de la musique d’avant, mystique, sauvage et dangereuse, comme l’ont pratiquée pendant des décennies, de John Lee Hooker zaux Stooges, des générations de magiciens noirs. Du heavy-blues psychédélique extatique et agressif, des chansons répétitives qui durent en moyenne dix minutes, une bacchanale sonique illicite et jouissive. Pas de revival en costume d’époque chez ces vieux briscards, mais la transmission du feu sacré, dont il faut avoir peur. Après avoir vécu dans l’underground durant pas mal d’années, ce groupe incontestablement unique et génial commence à se faire entendre, et pas seulement parce qu’il joue fort. Claviériste et hurleur John Wesley Myers, alias James Leg,(Black Diamond Heavies, The Immortal Lee County Killers,Cut in the Hill Gang) est de retour avec une nouvelle infusion de blues punk. Fils d'un prédicateur Texas, élevé dans le Sud sur de la musique gospel, James Leg a enregistré son nouvel album à Chattanooga, Cincinnati et Detroit, avec un peu d'aide de ses amis (Andy Jody, Johnny Walker, Left Lane Cruiser, Jim Diamond et d'autres). "Below The Belt" est un album qui frappe là où ça compte: droit au cœur, et dans votre bassin. C'est le genre de musique qui n'est pas vraiment belle mais qui vous fait vous sentir bien. Rock & Soul all night long.
