A l'occasion de la tournée européene de White Fang à venir au printemps, Gone With The Weed invite Gnar Tapes pour deux soirs de concerts à La Mécanique Ondulatoire.
Fondé en 2008 à Portland par Erik Gage, Gnar Tapes à évolué au fil des années en une véritable plateforme DIY pour de nombreux groupes. Entre éditions de cassettes en série limitée, vente de dessins et promotion de concerts, Gnar a développé une scène qui lui est propre, centrée sur le binôme White Fang / The Memories, autour duquel gravitent d'innombrables side-projects (Free Weed, Unkle Funkle, Skinny Jesus, Totally You, Jerry Rogers...).
Basé à Los Angeles depuis 2014, le label a récemment ouvert son propre magasin, Gnarburger, donnant une existence bien physique à Gnar Tapes, leur permettant de défendre d'autant plus les valeurs que tout ce petit monde incarne: garage-rock, culture stoner et omniprésence sur les réseaux sociaux.
☀ WHITE FANG
Formé en 2005 à Portland, White Fang n'a depuis cessé de faire la promotion d'une américanité débonnaire, reprenant avec brio les codes White Trash. Entre crise d'adolescence perpetuelle, aigles chauves et marijuana médicale, le dernier album du groupe (“Chunks” / Burger records) confronte les canons du rock à guitare et l'héritage de Cheech & Chong.
Trop serieux s'abstenir.
☀ THE MEMORIES
En six années d'existence et des changements de lineup incessants, The Memories ont publié pas moins de sept albums et autant de singles. Chantres d'un humour potache (“Wasted all the time”) voir carrément salace (“Go down on you”), les quatre habitants du magasin GnarBurger surprennent surtout par leur étonnant potentiel à écrire hit sur hit, en particulier sur leur récent album Hot Afternoon, produit avec brio par Sonny Smith.
Qui sera le premier à tirer une petite larme pendant leur reprise de “True Love Will Find You In The End” de Daniel Johnston...?
☀ FREE WEED
Avec son projet solo Free Weed, Erik Gage perpetue la tradition du home-recording dans sa plus pure essence, nous ouvrant un peu plus la porte de sa chambre de post-ado morceau après morceau. De retour d'une tournée au Brésil, il nous présentera “Introducing”, son dernier album en date, dans la cave de la Mécanique!
☀ UNKLE FUNKLE
Mettant à profit sa formation de chanteur lyrique pour questionner le concept de pudeur dans ses “Naked Karaoke”, n'hésitant pas à donner de sa personne pour illustrer ses artworks (“Picture Of My Dick”...), Chris Uelhein alias Unkle Funkle ne pose aucune limite à son entreprise créative. “Supernatural”, son dernier album en date (Fev 2016/Burger rec.) mêle Heroic-Fantasy et relents Eurodance, en résulte un disque à l'image de son auteur: fou.
Attention, spectacle total assuré.
☀ LE VILLEJUIF UNDERGROUND
Originaire de Townsville, Australie, et récemment installé à Paris, Nathan Roche a officié sous de nombreux alias (Marf Loth, Camperdown & Out), publiant au fil des années plus de 15 albums. Entouré du Villejuif Underground, on le classe volontiers dans la lignée de Jonathan Richman ou Kevin Ayers de par son aisance déconcertante à écrire des hits et la distance dont il fait preuve par rapport à ceux ci. L'album du Villejuif Underground sortira cet été sur l'excellent SDZ Records, le premier extrait ("On The Seine") temoignant déjà de la qualité de celui ci.
